Chapter S1 - Probabilities

Manipulating Statistics to your advantage

Aunt Bessie loved to visit her nieces and nephews. However, she had relatives all over the country.

The problem was that no matter how much she enjoyed seeing them, she hated flying. No matter how safe people told her it was, she was always worried that someone would have a bomb on the plane.

She read books about how safe it was and listened to the stewardess demonstrate all the safety features. But she still worried herself silly every time a visit was coming up.

Finally, the family decided that maybe if she saw the statistics she'd be convinced. So they sent her to a friend of the family who was an actuary.

"Tell me," she said suspiciously, "what are the chances that someone will have a bomb on a plane?"

The actuary looked through his tables and said, "A very small chance. Maybe one in five hundred thousand."

She nodded, then thought for a moment. "So what are the odds of two people having a bomb on the same plane?"

Again he went through his tables.

"Extremely remote," he said. "About one in a billion."

Aunt Bessie nodded and left his office.

And from that day on, every time she flew, she took a bomb with her.

(Now that's a smart lady_)

My Creation

I looked with amazement as the gleam breaks through the clouds,
with approval it seems to penetrate my thoughts.
Feelings of loneliness overlap with confusion,
i know i will never be the past again.

Currents of passion streamed from the river of determination,
casting shadows over the weak of the soil.
I recognise the love from the jealous grass,
and liberate the tears of the sword.

With the soul of the Innocence
Let me overcome the barriers set up by truth for life
The storms will roar, and the skies will split,
sending down the light of fervent hope,
the way for me to carve
the power, the ambition, the resolution, the order,
as i commence back to the dawn...

With the joy of the sphere
Let me surmount the darkness within thee
spreading wings of feeble adoration,
i sought to contend.
The choice for peace, the righteous road,
the Innocence,
will utilise my strength
to overcome the barriers, the uncertainties, the evil...

And i will never be the past again...

As we loom closer to prelims...

It's the official countdown once again and like many others, i just feel that time is forever not enough and we have just too much to cover. Well, at least the rest have not been like me, still actively involved in community projects until just 10 days ago.

I definitely have much much more to catch up relative to the rest of my peers,
and THIS IS A CRISIS.

Right now, studying is of paramount importance, and i have to muster up all courage, efforts and support possible. Argh why am i in all these mess? Papers and papers everywhere. "So sian."

Ok I have to tweak my method of studying now. Relax first, there're 6 days left, and no point giving 100% every day lest i run out of fuel when it comes to the real prelims. Let's take a genuine risk now, James. We step up our efforts over the days and peak during the next 2 weeks.

Let no other circumstances, people or matters blight the big Plan in life, and may your positive attitude perpetuate in your life.

FOCUS.

The reward at the end is always pleasing to the heart. =)
