The stupid back...

Can't believe i actually got this back injury which has lasted for almost a week... It's hurting whenever i exert strength and James can't do any pull-ups now, Which is so ESSENTIAL for canoeing... I wonder how much counts i'll actually lose when i recover..=(

It's demoralising me everyday and making my sprits low...Sigh.. Better Recover faster, James..:(

Sortie No. 2!

Had my second flight today and learnt the effects of controls in the plane...HMmm appreciate the art.. Control Column backwards, aircraft pitches up; control column forward, aircraft pitches down... Turn it left, you get a roll to the left and vice-versa. The rudder's even more amazing.. On the ground, stepping on the rudder paddle changes the direction of the plane's nose-wheel to the direction of the paddle u stepped on.. This is used to taxy the aircraft towards the runway, just like driving a car, however using only the legs for diretion (no steering wheel!) and the trottle for power.. On the air, the rudder paddles act differently, yawing the whole aircraft to the desired direction...But do bear in mind there are secondary effects to the controls too.. The secondary effect of yawing is rolling to the direction of the inner wing while that of rolling is yawing towards the direction of roll...Hmmm appreciate the art...:)

James will most probably dream of planes and driving one tonight.. (No more dreams of the class flower!haha..=P)

Beginning to love flying now, though it gives me airsickness and i have to endure it all the while inside the plane to "prove" to the flying instructor i'm of flying material...hmmm being a pilot is tough...However love flying now because of the feeling you get while in the air with the buildings, reservoirs, satellite dishes, kranji horse racing course and even the causeway looking so small below you...It's just like a toddler above the land of Lego, feeling so proud and amazed by the land of the "very small" below him... And of course, the very knowledge of learning how to drive a plane entirely on your own one day really gives you the satisfaction and motivation! =)

James love flying..But he must love mugging for it too! The checks alone can kill thousands of brain-cells..From the initial checks, external checks, to the pre-start checks, engine checks, take-off checks, in-flight checks to even the landing checks, there're literally hundreds of procedures for a pilot-in-training to memorise and perform without any difficulty..And if you think that's hard enough, you still have the radiotelephony procedures(where you have to talk to the radio control tower as much as you talk to your girlfriend on the phone while on land and on air using standard radiophoneic language), aircraft limitations, how everything in it works, airlaws, methodology and lots other more stuff to memorise and put it to practical use...Which i think may be the reason that accounts for the high dropout rate..Learning to fly can really be considered as a H2 subject boy..

Hmm it's no wonder why RJ's so strict on letting its SYFC students go for flying training..After my first sortie, my form teacher had warned me personally before that she would not allow me to skip lessons to go for flying next time.. This is also the reason why James 'poned' school entirely today. If i went to school today, i may not be able to come out again until school's over, so better play it safe..;)

It can be rather hard juggling the things you are passionate about outside and schoolwork. A private pilot license is definitely important for my future career as it's my aspiration to be an airforce pilot when i grow up. However, is the A levels examinations, my only door to university education, less important? It's sometimes hard to strike a balance...:)

Hmmm good friends around, pls do offer me advice on this by leaving your comments or tagging...and do leave me your blog addresses! Will link all of you people soon...=)
